We travelled around Scotland in 2014 & were disappointed that we couldn't find a castle to stay in that 'felt like a castle' once inside. After some searching we found Kilmartin Castle, which had dodged the Victorian home improvement brigade, quit our jobs, and set about creating the experience for visitors that we had hoped for.

Some rooms have handcrafted copper baths and others their own wood-burning stove. An eclectic mix of antique furnishings, well-considered new and old reclaimed materials, as well as original art pieces, create a very authentic, yet soft and welcoming castle interior. Kilmartin Castle took me by surprise - the way that Stef and Simo have brought it forward to meet the modern comforts we expect is a delightful experience. With so many places to visit and things to do, you will have to come back again and again.

So, when Kilmartin Castle went up for sale, a few weeks after our holiday ended, we couldn't resist starting a new adventure. We sold all our worldly possessions and bought it.
